Do you guarantee your repair work?
At Modern Shoe service is our first priority. We stand behind the shoes we sell and our repair services. We want our customers to be satisfied with their repair work. If for some reason you are not satisfied, please come in or call us, explain the problem, and we will make it right.
How long does it take to have my shoes repaired?
The amount of time it takes to do your repair work will vary based on our workload.
Online Shoe Repair: We try to complete all repair work that is shipped to us within 2 business days. In some instances (for example if we have to special-order an item or if the repair work is very time-consuming) it may take longer.
In-store Shoe Repair: If you bring your shoes in to the store, we will quote you a day and time that the repair work will be completed. We will also give you a claim ticket stub with the date and time that your repair work will be done written on it.
I’m in a hurry, can you rush my repair job?
We repair shoes in the order we receive them, in some instances we are able to do your repair work more quickly depending on our workload and the type of repair you need. Please call us or come into the store and we will let you know what we can do for you (and how quickly).
How much will my repair work cost?
Please see our Shoe Repair Price List for pricing information. Please note that our prices are subject to change without notice. If the work you need done is not listed, please contact us for a quote.
What does shipping cost?
If you ship your shoe repair work to us or if you drop it of in our store and wish to have it shipped back to you, the shipping cost for repaired items starts at $15, and may increase based on the number of pairs of shoes being shipped, etc. This applies to shipments within the USA only via ground shipping. Expedited shipping will be extra. The shipping cost for any repair work shipped outside of the USA will be quoted on a case-by-case basis.
Can I track my shipment?
We will ship your repaired items by our choice of either UPS Ground or by UPS Parcel Post (unless you have made special arrangements for a different shipping method). We can email you with a shipment tracking number if you provide your email address on your order form.
How can I pay for my shoe repair work?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover Card. You can provide your credit card information on the shoe repair form. We do not accept checks. Please do not put cash payments with any shoes that you ship to us. Of course if you come in to our retail store you may pay with cash.
My dog chewed up my shoe, can you fix it?
We fondly refer to these as "dog jobs" and unfortunately we get a lot of them. We will need to see the damage to your shoe to determine what can be done. You can either bring your shoe in to our store or email us some pictures. Although we can not restore your shoes to look exactly the same, there are some things we can do. We will discuss your options after looking at your shoe.
The sole on my shoe cracked, can you fix it?
Many times a shoe or boot that has a cracked sole will be covered by the manufacturers warrantee against defects. If you purchased your footwear at Modern Shoe, we will be able to tell you if it is under warranty. If not, please contact the store where you purchased your footwear. However if you’ve had your shoe for more than a year or if you’ve subjected your shoe to more than customary wear and tear, it will most likely no longer be covered under any warranty.
In most instances once the sole has cracked, it can not be repaired. You can try to repair it yourself using Shoe Goo or Barge Cement. This is usually a very-short term solution however, because the crack is inevitably located where the most stress is placed on the sole of shoe and the sole will crack again.
If it is a very minor crack, we may be able to resole the shoe. We will have to look at the shoe to determine if it is repairable.
Can you put a new sole on my Dr Martens?
We are unable to resole Dr Martens. The type of rubber used to construct Dr Martens does not adhere well to our industrial-strength adhesives and unfortunately the new soles wind up peeling off.
Can you put a new sole on my Ecco shoes?
Ecco shoes are constructed with a direct-inject polyurethane sole and we are unable to resole these shoes. We have found that attempts to resole Ecco shoes have very unsatisfactory results. The only company authorized by Ecco to resole Ecco shoes is NuShoe (www.nushoe.com), a company that has developed specialized equipment to resole Ecco footwear.
Can you repair or resole my Chacos?
Although we are able to repair Chaco sandals, the Chaco warranty indicates that any repair or modification done by anyone other than Chaco voids the warranty. If you need your Chaco sandals resoled or re-webbed (new straps) or other types of repair, please have this done by the manufacturer. Chaco has an excellent repair and resole program. Please click here to see the Chaco website repair & resole information.
If you are unconcerned about the Chaco warranty we can and do repair Chaco sandals (but not resole them) and can also shorten the straps, if needed.
